About Rotary International

What is Rotary?

          Rotary is an international
organisation of more than one million
service-minded business and professional
leaders. About

24 000 Rotary clubs  in 167 nations and
geographical area's compromise Rotary
International which is situated in Evanston,
Illinois, USA. A suburb north of Chicago.
The worlds oldest and most international
service organisation, Rotary was founded in
1905 by Paul Harris, a Chicago attorney
who wanted to encourage among hiss
business acquaintances the fellowship that
he had known.

         Service and fellowship are the
hallmarks of Rotary  and Rotarians
worldwide. The Rotary Motto "Service
above self" guides the actions of individual
clubs as they plan projects to feed the
hungry, fight disease, assist the handicapped
and the elderly, work with young people,
combat illiteracy and fund scholarships and
provide relief to disaster victims. Through
this shared commitment, Rotarians develop
a feeling of fellowship that extends beyond
their clubs, communities and countries, to
encompass the Rotary World.

Each Rotary Club meets weekly so
that member may discuss the club's service
goals and enjoy each others fellowship.
Membership is by invitation and is on the
basis of one representative of each
business, profession and institution, a
classification system that ensures a wide
cross section of community representation
